03/07/10 - 04/25/10 (7 weeks) LIFE: A Journey Through Time A Photographic Exhibition by Frans Lanting We are delighted to announce the arrival of Frans Lanting's “LIFE: A Journey Through Time” exhibition that opens on March 7, 2010. This photographic exhibition presents a lyrical vision of life on Earth from the Big Bang to the present. “I wanted to tell the story of life from its earliest beginnings to its present diversity by capturing images that evoke nature through time,” says Lanting. Each of the images was conceived and produced to provide a window on the past, enabling viewers to imagine what planet Earth looked like in different eras, as new forms of life evolved. The result is a glorious portrait of the magical beauty and enduring miracle of our living planet. The original LIFE exhibition opened in 2006 at Naturalis, the National Museum of Natural History of the Netherlands, and a second version of the exhibition was produced for the Festival of Science in Genoa, Italy, in 2007. Both shows are currently touring Europe, and have been viewed by more than half a million visitors. LIFE will be on display at the Stauth Memorial Museum through April 25, 2010, and then travels to Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Natural History where it will open in June 2010. We are expecting many groups and tours during this exhibit, so please *call in advance to schedule a tour if you are planning to come with a group of 5 or more!* *05/02/2010 - 06/27/2010 (8 weeks)* The Inventions of Leodanrdo da Vinci The Exhibition Alliance Leonardo’s scientific and technical drawings have captured the imagination for centuries. This exhibition focuses on 16 drawings, through reproducing Leonardo’s drawings on graphic panels and also realizing the idea in model form. Originally developed by the IBM Corporation, this interpretive exhibition encourages visitors to explore these concepts, in many cases through hands-on experiences with working models. The exhibition includes modular furniture, graphics, and models. This exhibition was donated to The Exhibition Alliance by the IBM Corporation. Exhibit toured by Exhibitions Alliance 07/06/10 - 0815/10 (6 weeks) Lincoln in Kansas Kansas State Historical Society The 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth is celebrated in a display of objects associated with our 16th President's life and times. These were turbulent years for the nation. All eyes were on Kansas, where anti- and proslavery forces engaged in battles that preceded and, some say, initiated the Civil War. A new traveling exhibit, Lincoln in Kansas, will feature items from Lincoln’s presidential campaigns, his 1859 visit to Kansas, and his assassination. Lincoln visited Doniphan, Atchison, and Leavenworth counties in northeast Kansas in late November and early December 1859, testing the waters and making connections for his future presidential campaign. These contacts paid off the following year at the Republican Party's convention, where he was chosen as its presidential candidate. Lincoln later told a young lawyer, seeking advice on where to set up practice in the West, “If I went West, I think I would go to Kansas.” Exhibit created and toured by the *Kansas State Historical Society. 08/29/10 - 10/10/10 (6 weeks)* Textiles of Warmth and Comfort Kansas Exhibitors This exhibit is designed to showcase the beauty, talent and craftsmanship of Kansas textile makers. All types of textiles will be exhibited such as: needlepoint, quilting, embroidery, tatting, knit, crochet, sewing, weaving, latch-hooking, textile art, batik, wall hangings and any other kind of textiles made by Kansas women and men. *Local exhibitors* 10/17/2010 - 11/29/2010 (6 weeks) *Christmas Traditions of Southwest Kansas* Southwest Kansas participants create exhibits in the traditions of how they decorate their homes/businesses etc. for Christmas and/or the Holidays. Exhibits are by theme or by tradition and decorated by individuals or groups thus bringing the traditions and spirit of “Christmas in Southwest Kansas” to the museum and its visitors. This presents a fun way to enjoy Christmas, get decorating ideas and share in the joy and wonder that is the season before getting bogged down with all the promotional hype of the Holidays. Seasonal activities and events make this a great family pastime! Local exhibitors. 12/12/2010 - 03/06/2011 (12 weeks) The Science of SuperCroc Created by Project Exploration What was it like to be the largest croc ever to roam the earth? What does it take to grow to be as big as a bus? What was life like in the Sahara 110 million years ago? Let your visitors step into the amazing world of SuperCroc! Dr. Paul Sereno and Project Exploration present The Science of SuperCroc—a hands-on exhibit experience that brings together Sarcosuchus, or SuperCroc, and its dinosaurian foe, Suchomimus, for the first time in 110 million years. The Science of SuperCroc immerses visitors in the ancient world of the planet’s largest crocodile and explores the science of how this creature grew so large—and how we know. Meet SuperCroc The original, most complete, six-foot-long, 110-million-year-old fossil skull of SuperCroc greets visitors as they enter the exhibit, alongside a flesh reconstruction. SuperCroc on Film Now playing in the Video Theater: The National Geographic documentary featuring Dr. Paul Sereno’s Saharan discovery of SuperCroc and the step-by-step process involved in bringing the creature back to life. The Expedition Imagine yourself digging for dinosaurs! An authentic expedition field tent and Dr. Sereno’s audio journal provide an inside look at what it takes to run a four-month dinosaur expedition to the world’s largest desert. A partially-opened field jacket allows visitors to peer into the brain cavity of SuperCroc. SuperCroc in the Flesh NEW! The life-size flesh reconstruction of SuperCroc—the largest croc that ever lived—is new to the exhibit. This realistic addition to the exhibit will transport your visitors to a prehistoric world. With a total length of 40 feet and four-foot-long jaws, it is easy to imagine giant SuperCroc stalking its dinosaur prey. SuperCroc and The Crocodile Mimic Interactive! Two of Africa’s largest ancient predators come face-to-face for the first time in 110 million years in the center of the exhibit. A life-size, 40-foot-long skeleton of SuperCroc is juxtaposed with a 35-foot-long interactive skeleton of Suchomimus, the “crocodile mimic.” Using two levers, visitors manipulate the kinetic, T. rex-sized Suchomimus skeleton to create life-like action. How to Hatch a SuperCroc How did SuperCroc get so large? The answer to this question is illustrated with original SuperCroc fossils, as well as life-size models of SuperCroc hatchlings alongside modern alligator hatchlings. Through the accompanying audio interactive, visitors hear how living crocs communicate—and what a hatchling SuperCroc might have sounded like. Skulls of living crocodilians help illustrate SuperCroc’s location on the croc family tree. SuperCroc’s World What was the world like 110 million years ago? A dramatic mural brings this ancient world to life, while a touchable fossil tree trunk and original Suchomimus fossils enable visitors to view the evidence on which the mural is based. Photo Station Touch the jaws of SuperCroc! How would you measure up as prehistoric dinosaur food? Visitors can get up close and personal with SuperCroc, touch a replica skull, and snap a photo of themselves beside the mouth of the giant croc! Activity Area Kids and adults alike can participate in a range of interactive educational activities aimed at broadening their SuperCroc experience. 03/20/2011 - 05/29/2011 (10 weeks) (tentative) Exhibit pending negotiations.. *Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2010* This exhibition features color photographs of wildlife from around the world. This international competition is recognized as the foremost of its kind with spectacular animal portraits, undersea worlds, endangered species and colorful plants. The competition is divided into adult (open to both amateur and professional) and a junior section for ages 17 and under. The winning photographs show the fascinating world of wildlife at its most beautiful and dramatic. The aim of the exhibit is to promote through the winning images, the beauty, wonder and importance of the natural world and to raise awareness for nature conservation. The Stauth Memorial Museum hosts many traveling exhibitions PLUS special events throughout each year that we encourage guests to participate and add items to make them more memorable and enjoyable. Below are listed the upcoming exhibitions that we are looking to add items or artifacts to complete or enhance the exhibitions.

Monetary donations to help pay for exhibition rental fees, shipping charges or to promote any Special Exhibition or Event are always gratefully accepted as well. (See Support the Museum for more information) Items are only loaned for the time of each special/traveling exhibition. Museum staff will protect these items with the same care and respect given to all items exhibited at the Stauth Memorial Museum. Temperature and humidity will remain constant and all items will be locked and secured when not open to the public according to Smithsonian Institution guidelines.
